Happy New Year

2007 came to a close with our first trip to snow capped Mauna Kea. We visited Hale Pohaku (9000 foot level) before with Kaipo but never went to the top because of all of the hype about how it's not good to take young children up to such a high elevation. Well, now that she is an over the hill 14 year old, we took the opportunity with the Christmas feelings and all to trek up to the 13,000+ elevation and enjoy the snow!
And that we did as you can tell from the photos.

This is Kika trying to warm up by pulling the cap down tighter! NO LUCK! IT WAS FAREEZIN!

This belongs in a Toyota ad except there's no Toyota! Kaipo was in HEAVEN, literally and poetically, this being her first jaunt in snow.

Yup, that's one of a few observatories at the tippy top. Funny how's there's no snow there. Must be some radioactive waves or something because there was SO MUCH SNOW people were snowboogie boarding.
