From Bull to Steer

It was only a matter of time. And today, apparently, was the time. Matisyahu went from bull to steer with a few short strokes of a very sharp knife (Kalena is into sharp knives. Evidenced by the FOUR different sharpening tools in our kitchen). Now you see "them" now you don't.

It seems a rather cruel way to meet the end of your "man-dom" but here in cattle country, that's how it goes. Apprently, if you're a rancher, you want just a bull or two that you bought just for the purpose of populating the herd. The rest of the males get castrated when they're fairly young. Helps them go grow nicer and behave better. The good news: the "goods" are edible. The better news: Matis didn't kick me off. He took it like a man. I mean, a steer.
